The first thing you should always do if you can't install a programme from the CD is to check if you are running an Antivirus programme or any system speeding up tools. If you are, try de-activating or uninstalling them and then installing the programme.

We strongly recommend that you read the SUPPORT section on the cover disc, there are lots of helpful tips and solutions relating to specific software found on the cover disc - past and present!

McAfee Firewall Version 3
The files for McAfee Firewall, can be found on the root directory of your disc. Insert the disc into your computer. Click START, Click on RUN, and in the field type D:\setup.exe. Click on OK.

Disk Not Loading

If you get an error message when you restart the disk that says 'Application Error in GO.exe'.  This has been linked to early versions of some anti-virus products and either upgrading your anti-virus product, or uninstalling it may resolve the problem.  If this does not appear to resolve the problem, please contact technical support to request a replacememt disk.

Lineone

The link at the bottom of the featured software page for the Internet Service Provider 'Lineone' will make changes to your default web browser including changing your home page settings and your default dial-up internet connection.   You should be aware of this before proceeding with the installation if you have an existing ISP and/or browser installed and configured.

Installing software from the disc

Whether you're running from the launch dialog menu or from within the browser (provided you're using Internet Explorer), simply click the install buttons (they're clearly marked) and follow the on-screen prompts. Read the CD/DVD notes in Personal Computer World for additional information on installing and using the programs.

DVD USERS — Can't see the files in the folders ... ?

A few readers have reported empty folders on their DVD-ROM discs. This is almost certainly not caused by a faulty/damaged disc, but is a rare UDF conflict with certain versions/configurations of Windows 2000 - (it also, very rarely, occurs with Windows 98). There is a workaround - readers with this problem can download and install a UDF reader from the Adaptec site...

that will allow them to see the correct file structure. We have only received emails from six readers - so the problem appears to be very confined.
If you are experiencing this problem, download and run the UDF Reader. We have also included a copy of the installer file (udfread_v103_install.exe) in the Essentials folder on the DVD, to save you connecting to the net, but it's worth checking out the Adaptec site for information anyway, before proceeding.
